Happy February! The education office at SFI is bustling as our team gets ready for a big move to the new Miller campus. We are looking forward to getting settled into our new office on the beautiful campus in Tesuque and we hear there is even a giant UFO awaiting our arrival. You can read more about it here.

SFI Team in Seattle

Isa Ruiz, Complexity Explorer Coordinator, is travelling to Seattle this week with a small team from SFI for the AAAS conference. This year’s theme is “Envisioning Tomorrow’s Earth” and we are looking forward to hearing from the premier thought leaders and scientists in Climate Change, Artificial Intelligence, Sustainability, and so much more.

If you are planning on attending the conference come stop by our booth to say “hi.” We are going to be located right by the NASA booth in the expo. If you happen to be in Seattle, please join us for an SFI happy hour. We will be at GameWorks on Saturday, February 15th, from 6pm-8pm. Join us for a beverage, a snack, challenge us to an arcade game, or watch us try to beat our high scores at pinball. We are SO looking forward to a weekend of science in the Pacific Northwest.

Apply for Global Sustainability

Applications for the Global Sustainability Summer school are now open. This year’s program will take place from July 27 - August 7, 2020 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, U.S.A. Cities are leading the transition to sustainable human development across the world. Many large cities have set ambitious decarbonization targets well ahead of their nations, while emphasizing the imperative for harnessing the revolution in energy technologies to address issues of social equity and economic development.

Achieving these integrated objectives requires new, systemic knowledge and new ways to drive practice. The SFI Global Sustainability Summer School (GSSS) provides an intensive two-week program on the leading role of cities as complex systems driving the global sustainability transition.

Participants will learn from leading international thinkers and practitioners about the state of the art in science, technology and policy creating systemic solutions.

All applicants are welcome. The school is especially well-suited for postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, early-career scientists, policymakers at agencies and foundations, and business professionals.

Please help us spread the word to anyone who might be interested in this opportunity!
